Player Questions
What is Ooo?
Ooo is the land your character has currently been brought to! Ooo is the main continent shown on the show Adventure Time. The continent risides on what seems to be a post-apocalyptic Earth, with notable places such as Candy Kingdom, Ice Kingdom, Lumpy Space, and Grasslands. Many other forests, kingdoms, and islands make it up, and a map of the area can be seen here. It's home to various creatures and species, ones your character will have the chance to meet throughout the game. As of this point, it's the only continent your character will be able to travel around.
What's Adventure Time? Do I need to know about it to play here?
Adventure Time, a TV series, began airing on Cartoon Network in 2010, following the adventures of Finn the Human and his best friend, Jake the Dog. The series is a story of heroism; however, many of the episodes revolve around some very real themes-- love, family, friendship, living, good & evil, loss--and the themes are usually mixed into some very absurd situations. As an animated kids' show, episodes range from scary to heart warming, dramatic to light-hearted, and can be very funny.
Do you need to know Adventure Time to play here? No way!!!! Any information about the series that may be relevant is or will be explained to players, so don't worry about being canon blind! If you want to know more about the world your character resides, check out the Locations and Inhabitants pages. There is also a wikia, that has detailed information on everything in Ooo.
What are the communities?
There's just four communities!

What's the game's format?
The base format of the game is comment spam. But the players are free to use any style they're comfortable with! Whether it's prose, action brackets, or anything else you prefer, that's totally fine. Just make sure it's a style that can easily be read by others.
What are the activity check requirements?
The requirements for AC are as follows: a post on the main network or logs comm totalling twenty (20) comments from your character, or at least two threads with comments totalling twenty (20) comments or more from your character. If you want to read more about the activity check, go on over here!
Do you allow fourth walling?
That's up to the players to decide. If your character recognizes another, please ask the player for permission to fourth wall before doing anything.
What kind of plots do you have here?
We've got a bunch of different plots here at Ooo. They can range from slice of life to more adventuring and action-based, to spooky and horror plots. You can expect to find a dash of everything here. And we're open to player plots, too! If you have a suggestion for any kind of plot, just drop us a line over at the suggestions page!
Setting
What does Ooo look like?
Ooo is a large continent with a lot of different terrains. To the north you can find mountains and snow, and to the south the blazing hot desert. The east of the continent is filled with spooky marshes and forests so be careful. On all sides Ooo is surrounded by an ocean.
Since it's based on a canon, does Ooo have a canon point?
Sort of. For simplicity's sake, we've chosen to have it be somewhere in season five. That covers a lot of the important things that have happened in canon already, but also gives us a little leeway. However, in the event that something major happens in Adventure Time, we will "canon update" the world. What will happen to the characters not from Ooo is Cosmis Owl and Prismo will get together, discussing that something big is going to happen in Ooo, and they can't have the newcomers getting involved in it. So they'll shoot them off to Lumpy Space until the whole thing blows over. Adventure Time characters will have knowledge of what took place, and can tell newcomers if they wish.
There are these weird things in the sky. What are they?
Those? Oh, those are just the fourth dimensional bubbles created by the bubble creator, no big deal. They're just the things that keep bringing people into Ooo. But don't get too close, or they'll suck you into oblivion, and spit you back out into Ooo later. Usually, people aren't suck in there for long, but if you're not careful, you might go missing for a long time (this is basically what can be used as an excuse for a missing character if you have to go on hiatus).
There's all these different regions! What's the weather like?
Expect basic weather patterns in each region. In the Candy Kingdom or the Grasslands, the weather is your regular sunny, occasional showers, cloudy, etc. But if you move over to a place like the Ice Kingdom? There's always snow. And don't expect rainstorms, just snowfall, no weather change. Now if you go over to, say, the Badlands or Desertlands, it'll be extremely hot in those areas. Always hot. Seasonal changes are customary, however it's mostly just a drop and rise in temperature in all areas. For any abnormal weather, such as a thunderstorm or flooding, mods will announce it. If you want to request a special kind of weather for a day or a week, go ahead and talk to a mod! We'll work it out.
What about travelling around Ooo?
By all means, go for it! You can get most anywhere by foot, but there are also horses and carriages for you guys to ride around in, as well as trains and boats if need be. You're heroes, go forth and explore Ooo to your heart's content, everyone encourages it. Just don't expect to find any cars or motorbikes.
How do you expect my character to get food and clothes and stuff?
Good ol' Princess Bubblegum has that taken care of, too. Your characters' communicator also works as proof that they are part of the newcomers being taken in from different worlds, and provisions will be provided to you free of charge. Of course, these are just the basics if you're only a citizen. If you want anything nicer, you better get to work on raising your hero or villain rank to get cooler stuff.
What if my character wants to leave Ooo?
Sorry, man, but that's a no go. If a character ever tries to leave Ooo and travel across the ocean, super harsh storms will prevent them from getting very far. In fact, they'll sweep up your character and their boat, and dump them on some random beach in Ooo. So yeah, unless you want to know what a hurricane or something feels like? Don't try to leave the continent.
Character Questions
Wait, hold up. Where am I? How did I get here?
Welcome to Ooo! A mathematical continent on a world most likely different from the one you came from. There's a lot of kingdoms to visit, and people to meet, so you should totally stay for a while. It's a cool place. As to how you got here, that would be the Princess' fault. You see, Princess Bubblegum loves science, and so she rebuilt the bubble creator Finn made a while back. And now it can pretty much bring in people from other worlds and dimensions, as well as send them back.
Welcome to Ooo! While upon arrival, you're not entirely sure HOW this happened, only that one moment you're on your home planet (or perhaps another planet), the next you're waking up from a nap you never knew you took, in some random part of Ooo. How you got here would be thanks to the fourth dimention bubbles in the sky: basically somewhat-stabilized black holes.
So... why am I here again?
Princess Bubblegum originally wanted to open a portal between worlds to experience new culture. And also to see if it worked. While she had no ill intentions, after the bubble creator was stolen, it became impossible to return characters home. Why people keep showing up is, whoever stole the creator is still using it, and there is still no way to get rid of the ones presently hovering around Ooo.
Alright, but I still don't know what the bubble creator is?
The bubble creator is basically a souped up bubble wand. In "The Real You," Finn wanted to impress Princess Bubblegum by becoming super smart, and making a super cool thing to impress her with. Thus, the bubble creator was born, and was able to create bubbles in two dimension, three dimension, and fourth dimension. Granted, the fourth dimensional was an unstable black hole that tried to kill everyone at the science BBQ.
In this universe, Princess Bubblegum gathered the destroyed parts of the bubble creator to make a new one; one that could actually stabilize the bubbles after blown. They now serve as a portal into Ooo, and if recalibrated, a portal back to your character's home world. Too bad the bubble creator was stolen, huh...?
What exactly can I do with this communicator I got?
Just your basic cell phone things. Send texts, make calls, have video chats; oh and there are a few crappy games on there. And it works like a regular cell phone, too, so it's not that difficult. They even look like a regular cell phone, so for those of you from modern worlds, these will be a piece of cake. But for those who have no idea what in the glob they're looking at, the people here can help you out. It also works as a sort of "VIP" pass, so you don't have to worry about paying for anything.
Where is my character supposed to live?
Don't you worry, Princess Bubblegum has everything under control. A forest near the kingdom has been transformed into a tree house town for the new comers to live in. Sounds neat, huh? Even better, the tree houses can fit about 4-6 people, so you'll all get roomies. But if that's not to your liking, then you can go ahead and stay in an apartment building in the Candy Kingdom, or go find a place more suited to you somewhere in Ooo. As long as it looks habitable. The forest is meant for the bulk of the newcomers.
There are a bunch of people who live here already, who are they?
Those would be the natives of Ooo, as you probably gathered. You've got a bunch of people already here, like Princess Bubblegum, Ice King, Finn and Jake, Peppermint Butler, and tons of other people and monsters. If you want to know more about them, just take a look at the inhabitants page!
Am I going to lose my powers here?
Nope! The bubble creator just brings you here as you are. Though, if you do have any game/world changing powers, we're going to have to put a cap on those. It's going to be a case by case basis thing, however, and you should receive notice upon acceptance if a cap is necessary!
What happens when a character is dropped? Or is on canon update?
Both scenarios happen the same. They disappear in a cloud of smoke, and go back to their own world. No, we're serious about this. They quite literally poof out of Ooo. The only thing that will be left behind is their communicator, and no one really knows how it happens. Characters on canon update will return via black hole, just like before.
Oops, I died. Do I come back?
You do! Basically what happens is, after you die, you go on this really trippy acid-like dream. That lasts for a little while, and then bam! The Cosmic Owl shows up at the end of the dream, and your character wakes up to find themselves alive once again. There's no cap on number of deaths, either.
What if I need to take a hiatus? What happens to my character?
That depends on you! You can put them on autopilot if you want to, or have them be sucked in by one of the fourth dimension bubbles. They won't stay in there forever, don't worry. If they get too close, they'll be sucked in, then spat out when you come off hiatus. Granted, they might be a little disoriented when they come out, but it'll wear off soon enough.
Wait, what about the language barrier?
Oh, you don't need to worry about that. No one is quite sure what it is, but some force in Ooo makes it so all of you can understand each other. So that's one big problem out of the way, huh?
Heroes' and Villains' Ranks
So what's the heroes and villains choice I keep hearing about?
After your character gets here, they're basically a normal civilian. But after that, they can decide if they want to become a hero or a villain. If you want to be a hero, you talk to Princess Bubblegum about that, and she'll set you up with everything you need, like instructions about being a hero, the ranking system, and quests! Now, if you want to be a villain instead, you'll be getting a visit from Hudson Abadeer who tells you that hey, you've got potential to be a villain! So why not give it a try? If you do some bad stuff and you're good at it. If you do well, he'll drop by again and tell you to do more evil stuff. If you want to see a list of current heroes and villains in Ooo, go on over to the heroes and villains page! Of course, you can choose to stay as a regular civilian if you want.
What are these quests I keep hearing about?
Some seriously mathematical things, that's what. For you new heroes (or villains, if that's how you chose to go) living in Ooo, you can accomplish quests given out that increase your hero rank. The more quests you successfully finish, the closer you get to raising your rank. The more heroic you become, the more awesome the stuff you can get is! Of course, we're not going to let you newb heroes go on a quest to save the world right away. You'll have to take care of simpler quests before you can become a true hero, so no cutting in the hero line! All of this applies for villains, too. The more dastardly deeds you do, the more your villain rank goes up. But once your rank is high enough? Go forth and save the world all you want! Or destroy it, whatever floats your boat.
What's the ranking system?
It's the system that can tell how good of a hero or villain your character is. Not including the civilian rank, there are seven (7) ranks for heroes and villains. On the hero side (lowest to highest), we have goody two shoes, wannabe hero, half-time hero, capable bun puncher, quest crusher, potential princess rescuer, and bodacious hero! On the villain side for rankings, there's playground bully, little punk, thorn in a hero's side, charismatic crook, ruthless rogue, princess snatcher, and indomitable villain!
How does my character move up in rank?
Every few weeks a post will go up filled with different quests at different ranks for you to chose from. Your character can participate in any of quests, so long as their rank is equal to or higher than that quest. You can participate in as many as you like, but only four of them per post can be reported back to the mods for ranking up. If you want to get above the civilian rank, you need to complete five (5) basic quests. After that, for every seven (7) quests successfully completed, your rank will increase.
Wait a second, I'm not going to let these villains run around! Can't I stop them?
Nope! Sorry. Not unless certain conditions are met. For starters, you have to be at equal ranking. If you're not, then Hudson is going to swoop in and stop you from fighting one of his villains. Or, Princess Bubblegum will come with the Banana Guards to stop the fight. Secondly, you need to properly challenge them to a duel. You know, send them a letter or message or something. You can't just run around challenging every villain you see. This also applies to the villains, they can't go attacking or challenging every hero. Make sure you run all this by a mod first, please, as well as the player you wish to challenge.
If the hero or villain accepts your challenge, it's up to the players to decide who you want to win. If the hero wins, Princess Bubblegum will hold a party in the hero's honor, while Hudson knocks the villain's rank down by one (1). If the villain wins, Hudson takes them back to the Nightosphere for a party! And the hero gets a "you tried" star, and their rank goes down one, as well.
What if I want something back from my world?
Every time your hero or villain rank increases, you have the option of requesting to get an item from home. But we don't except anything that might game break. If you want to know more about regains, visit the regains page!
Do we get perks or any advantages for being heroes or villains?
You certainly do! As your rank increases, shopkeepers and the like will have nicer things available for you, like clothes, furniture, and various items and weapons. Your characters will also be more liked by the residents. Candy people will like your character more as their rank increases, and be more respected. Among bandits, your villain will be more well-known and liked, as well.
Is there a reward for reaching the highest rank?
For now, no, but in due time you may find there's a final big reward to those who reach the highest rank.
Applications
Who can I app here?
Pretty much anyone can be applied for in the game. We accept canon OU characters, AU characters, original characters, and canon OCs. Some versions of duplicates are also accepted. Fan-made characters, including OCs and AUs, will have to do a little extra work to prove that they completely understand the character they're applying for, as well as the world that they come from. Adventure Time characters are also available; however they, too, require a little extra work on your part.
What do those terms mean? AU, OU, and OC?
For those of you unfamiliar with things like OU and AU, we'll explain them here.
OU means original universe. If you app someone from an OU, you're applying for them directly from the author's work. For example, applying for Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes and have your canon point be from one of his cartoons, that's applying for a canon OU character.
AU means alternate universe. Someone from an AU comes from a different timeline than the original canon. An example of this is Fionna the Human, the female counterpart to Finn the Human from Adventure Time. But since she actually has a few episodes to herself, she is considered canon. You can also app a fan-made AU character, such as where Bugs Bunny is actually a duck or other animal. We'll expect a lot of detail in fan-made AUs to make it clear to understand.
An OC is an original character. This is a character that you created yourself, gave them their own setting, story, etc. It's essentially creating an entire canon. As such, we will need plenty of detail on your canon and character so we can get a good understanding of it. A fan-made OC is a character you created to put into a canon. An example would be making a ninja of your own to put into the setting of Naruto, giving them their own back story, personality, and whatnot. Characters with very little canon might also be considered an OC; the canon fantrolls from Homestuck would be created from mostly headcanon, and thus would have to be applied for as an OC.
When do you process applications?
For the time being, we'll be accepting applications as they come. This is subject to change, and these changes will be announce!
What are the allowances for duplicates?
If a single character can exists in two different universes, and their personality, background, or experiences make those two versions of the character different enough, it should be acceptable. Such an example of this would be Sherlock Holmes in the original books, BBC's adaptation, and the American films. If you want to apply for a duplicate of a character already in game, that's allowed. But if we see that your character, and the one currently in game are very similar, we might have to say no. What we consider too similar is if their personalities and backgrounds match up almost entirely. If you're not sure, feel free to ask before hand.
How many AUs do you allow per character?
We allow three (3) AU per canon character. The cap is in place so we don't end up with a ridiculous number of a single character! Because while an army of batman would be funny, it's just not functional in a game setting.
My character isn't a human. What will happen to them?
They'll stay as they are! No changes will be made to them whatsoever. If they couldn't speak with people normally before (such as Oliver from Oliver and Company), they are now able to speak with humans.
My character was dead, or at least close to dying in their canon. What will happen to them?
A mysterious force (could it be the Cosmic Owl? who knows) in Ooo that was able to heal your character from their injury, disease, or whatever was about to kill them. Weird how this world works, huh?
Can I canon update my character?
Yes! There's two separate ways to handle canon updates, depending on the span of chapters/episodes/books you're updating to. If you're just updating over a short period of time, say less then forty (40) chapters, or maybe twenty (20) episodes, then you can just come to a mod and ask for a canon update without having to resubmit an application. Anything major jumps in canon, and we'll have to ask you to submit an app with details on how your character changed.
Is there a character limit?
There is. A player can only have five (5) characters in game at a time, and can only app another character if they've passed the previous activity check.
Can I play a character from Adventure Time?
You can! But we have a special application for that, so head over to the Adventure Time application page if you're interested. We do ask that if you play a character from Adventure Time that you keep active with them, so make sure they're involved in events in Ooo. As for AC, the requirements for an Adventure Time character are a little higher, as they must have five (5) comments added on to the current AC. So instead of twenty (20) comments to pass AC, it becomes twenty-five (25) comments. We also ask that players be willing to participate in helping with necessary plots in the game, as we may need them to help move things along.
Can I reserve someone?
You bet you can! Just double check the taken list to make sure the character you want to reserve isn't already on the list. If you want to reserve, just go on over to the reserves page and go from there.
Do you allow app challenges?
We do, so long as the character you're applying for hasn't been reserved. If they are, we won't allow a challenge for that character. You can, however, declare you would like to challenge an application with no reserve. Send us a PM saying which character you're challenging for in case you need an extra three days to finish your application. After that, you challenge will be null. You cannot challenge an application that has already been accepted.
